Charlotte Ann Cunningham Newton, 88, of Snyder passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, in Altus. She was born on the family farm on August 29, 1934, in Kiowa County to Howard Oregon and Jonnie (Coker) Van Cleave. Although she started school at the Richland Country School, she graduated from Snyder High School. After graduation she was a telephone operator for “Ma Bell” until she married Lee F. Cunningham on July 16, 1953.
She worked hard as a farm wife until she began working in the Snyder Schools lunchroom program. She loved feeding the kids and later in life was always proud when a graduate would come back to give “Miss Ann” a hug and a thank you for the meals. When Lee passed away in 1993, she retired and moved to town. Many Snyder residents would honk and wave at her as she worked in her beautiful garden and green lawn. She loved being a member of the Snyder Study Club and enjoyed being hostess for “Study Club Day.” She had many friends in the Ladies Bible Study group here in Snyder and even when her health and hearing wouldn’t let her attend church services, she would “sneak in” for Bible study with them.

Ann is survived by her three daughters and families, Alicia Rasco and husband William, grandsons Lee, Scott, great-grandson Korbyn and great-granddaughter Gabrielle; daughter Betty Ward and husband Don, grandson Calen Ward of Pembroke Pines, Florida, granddaughter Dr. Rachel Ward and husband Dr. Chris McDowell, great-granddaughter Layla, great-grandson Bruce, all of Willow Springs, North Carolina; daughter Delana Martin, grandsons Chase of Oklahoma City, Cory and wife Andrea, great-granddaughter Emma and great-grandson Sebastian of Dallas, Texas; her sister Effie Shipman and husband Kenneth, and a host of nieces, nephews and their families.

Ann is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Lee Cunningham and Joe Newton, brother Steve, sisters, Dorothy, Louise, Evalu, Dora Lee and nephew Joe Jarrett.
