Kevin Bland McKinney

June 01, 2023

Kevin Bland McKinney was born on October 11, 1969, in Lawton, and passed away unexpectedly at the age of 53 on April 12, 2023.

After his parents’ divorce, Kevin moved to Dallas, Texas in August of 1971 with his mother, Sandra McCarty McKinney and stepfather, Bernie McKinney.

Kevin had the priviledge of being loved and supported by the following families in the Snyder, Indiahoma and Roff, areas: McCarty/Underwood family, McKinney family as well as the Bland family.

Kevin started elementary school in Dallas and graduated in 1989 from Dallas Skyline High School. He was an extremely gifted and competitive athlete who played a variety of sports: Soccer, Football, Baseball, and Basketball. He played inter-scholastics, as well as, Select soccer where he traveled in the US and Mexico. Kevin enjoyed working as a soccer linesman and referee up through his High School years. He helped coach little league football and in the “Upward Soccer” program.

He worked in the carwash industry for several years, eventually the owner operator of Lake Highland Carwash and most recently employed at the distribution warehouse for Chewy’s Pet Supply.

One to never meet a stranger, friendly, and funny with a dynamic personality, Kevin was an avid OU fan…loved the outdoors, cooking and grilling, tending to horses, and entertaining loved ones. He had a knack for fixing things, as some would say “a jack of all trades.” His kindness came with a willing hand to pitch in where needed and a giving spirit towards those who might otherwise be overlooked.

He was preceded in death by his biological father, Jerry Bland; stepchildren, Tara and Codie Castoe; Special Uncle, Freddie McCarty; Grandparents: James and Amy Underwood McCarty; Leon & Juanita McKinney and Virgil and Martha Bland.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather who raised him, Bernie and Sandra McKinney, Dallas; Sister, Jennifer McKinney, Rowlett, Texas; Special cousins, Brandi Mosley and Brandon McCarty of Snyder; Sister, Shelly Bland Hurt, Ardmore; Aunt, JoAnn Messick of Indiahoma; Cousin, Teresa Jackson, Indiahoma, Laura McKinney of Sunnyvale, Texas; Daughter, Alexis McKinney, grandson, “Jake” Bland Giron and granddaughter, Jersey LeAnne Giron.

Kevin also had the honor of being the “father he didn’t have to be” to a step-nephew, CJ Linville and three step-granddaughters: Desiree, Kilee, and Faith Collins and “pawpaw” to Ella and Brooklyn.

Kevin will be truly missed by a host of family and friends.
