September 20, 2023

Graveside service for Alice Faye (Elver) Silcox will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, September 23, 2023, in the Roosevelt Cemetery, Roosevelt.

Alice F. Silcox was born April 29, 1949, in Borger, Texas to Leona (Read) Elver and Oscar (Dutch) Elver. She grew up in the River Road and Pleasant Valley areas of Amarillo, Texas. Upon the death of her father in 1962, she was adopted by Barbara Williams and through this adoption she gained a sister and a brother.

She loved horses and being outside, as soon as she got out of school and got her chores done, she was on a horse going somewhere. She won numerous ribbons and trophies through the years doing western pleasure and play-days. She was a jack of all trades, there was nothing she couldn’t fix, build, drive or do. Her determination and never quit attitude was notorious. She was well known as the woman who could do anything and frequently referred to as “The toughest ole broad I’ve ever met”, and she was proud of that. Her work ethic was unmatched and she never quit early a day in her life and she wasn’t going to start now. At 5 p.m. (quitting time) on September 17, 2023, she drew her last earthly breath and stepped into the arms of her Lord and Savior. She will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know her.

Alice was married to Yancy Lapar, and they had one son. She then married B. Tommy Taylor and they had one daughter. She married Burl Silcox and with this union gained three bonus children.
She is survived by her life partner of 19 years, Terry Ashley, her son Monty Lapar (Jaime), her daughter Utana Taylor, her bonus children whom she adored: Teresa Silcox, Troy Silcox, and Missy (Mike) Stoner, Terry Ashley Jr. and Brandy Ashley, her eight grandchildren: Jacob Taylor (April), Dylan Lapar (Brandy), Melissa Taylor (Kalebb), Chasity Lapar, Stormy Biggers (Jay), Keegan Kenyon (Lindsay), Hannah Sterling (Brock) and Riley Stoner. She is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren with one more on the way, her sister Rena Wesley and brother Jeff Wesley and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Alice is preceded in death by her parents, her adopted mom Barbara Williams, half-brother Warren Elver, half-sister Gladys (Elver) Black, brother Floyd Elver, and her husbands Yancy Lapar and Burl Silcox.
