Vera Louise Woodward, 88, Mountain Park, died on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, in a Lawton hospital. She was born October 25, 1934 in Mountain Park to William Allen and Jane Ruth (Messick) Treadwell. She married Curtis William Woodward on March 14, 1962, in Vernon, Texas. He preceded her in death on July 3, 1999.
Vera Louise’s journey through life was nothing short of extraordinary. She lived her days without harboring enemies, always seeking the goodness in people. Challenges never deterred her; she embodied the essence of hard work. After retiring from the CO-OP in the late 90’s at the age of 62, she didn’t let retirement hold her back. In 2000, she joined the post office, and she continued to serve until 2020, an impressive feat at the age of 85.
Vera Louis was the unwavering presence at her grandchildren’s sporting events and would travel all over just to see them play. She had an undying passion for the Sooners, and her spirited cry of “Boomer Sooner” would erupt whenever they made an exceptional play or scored. Most visits with her would at some point involve playing skip-bo, dominos, Yahtzee, or her favorite of all, Farkel. She dearly loved playing the piano, which she did for over 40 years in the Methodist Church. She played for numerous weddings and funerals. During family gatherings, Vera would sit down at the piano as everyone else would gather around to sing. Vera was kind and loved everyone. Her laugh was infectious and would immediately bring a smile to your face. She loved Jesus and some of her last words were to always love one another.
Survivors include her three children: Keith Bonham and Suzanne of Tipton, Cathy Wood and Mark of Geronimo, Shane Woodward and Angie of Snyder; her brother Bill Treadwell and Pam of Frederick; sister, Glenda Ousley of Marlow; sister-in-law, Micah Treadwell of Frederick; six grandchildren: Justin Bohnam and Tara of Kress, Texas, Brant Bonham and Leah of Fairview, Courtney Tompkins and Jason of Elgin, Dustin Wood and fiancé Lauren Vanek of Forney, Texas, Tanner Woodward of Snyder, Brittney Woodward of Oklahoma City; five great-grandchildren: Bailey Bonham, Chase Bonham, Trace Bonham, Layla Bonham and Rigby Tompkins. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
