Glenda Joy Harris

October 19, 2023

Glenda Joy Harris went to join the Lord and saints in Heaven Saturday, October 14, 2023. She passed away at Corinth Rehabilitation Suites on the Parkway after a brief battle with leukemia. Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Rogers Cemetery, southwest of Snyder, OK.

Glenda was born December 16, 1942 in Mountain Park, Oklahoma to Orren and Euna (Michael) Walker. She grew up in Mountain Park picking cotton with the family. After graduating high school, she began working as a waitress at the local diner where she met Philip Dexter Harris, whom she married on October 16, 1961 in Mountain Park. Together they had and raised three children. She worked as a secretary for civil service before retiring. When Philip retired, they both traveled full-time in their RV for over three years before settling down again in Mountain Park near Glenda’s family, where Philip passed away four years ago on October 17, 2019.

Glenda loved the Lord and was originally a Baptist, but later in life converted to Catholicism. Her strong faith carried her through the very aggressive trail of the last month of her life when leukemia appeared, attacked, and took her life with no warning. Next to the Lord, she valued family most of all and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Glenda is survived by her children: Barbara Ann Derryberry of Krum, Texas and husband, Roy Thomas Derryberry; Victoria Lea Dacalio of Oklahoma City, OK and husband Alson Mitchel Dacalio; and Susan Carol Read of Pilot Mountain, NC and husband Clark Davis Read; eight grandchildren: Sonya Lakota Derryberry, Benjamin Thomas Derryberry, Mary Elizabeth Janis, Keola Mitchell Philip Dacalio, Ka’iulani Faith Dacalio, Jesse Davis Read, Virginia Joy Read, and Clayton Clark Read; seven great-grandchildren, and her siblings: Orren Stanley Walker of Mountain Park, OK; Benjamin Franklin Walker of Oklahoma City, OK; Judy Oneita Just of Lawton, OK; Tennie Louise Lett of Mountain Park, OK; Anna Marie Carpenter of Altus, OK; and Virgil Ray Walker of Snyder, OK.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by a grandchild, Hi’ilani Rose Dacalio.
