Erma completed her journey on this earth Friday, August 2, 2024 in Snyder.
She was born in Garvin County, OK near Roff on December 8, 1926, to Samuel Anderson and Loma Arvilla Storie. She was the third of five girls and two boys.
She graduated from 9th grade at Roff School. The Storie family moved to the Snyder area in 1944 where Mr. Storie farmed and Erma said she helped.
She was married to Therman Richardson from August 22, 1946, to May 19, 1994. They spent a number of years moving to several different churches during the time he was preaching. When he became a cantaloupe farmer, Erma took on the work of making sandwiches for dozens of young people who spent summers picking the cantaloupe.
Erma always kept busy. She was a dedicated and faithful church member. She read whenever she found the time, educating herself while rearing four children. She had two girls, one of which died as an infant, and three boys.
After the kids were out on their own, Erma continued to find ways to keep herself busy. She was a member of the Phebean Sunday School Class, and she sang in the choir. She loved decorating for all the holidays, inside and out, and lots of her neighbors enjoyed driving by. She sewed lots of clothes for her family, even leisure suits for all the men. She worked for a time at Mabel’s Dress Shop, altering clothes, and she was an alternate rural mail-carrier for a number of years. In later years she was a member of the Snyder Woman’s Study club, serving as president from 1998-2000, and she helped at Angel’s Attic, the Baptist women’s free clothing store.
Erma loved to have family dinners and she offered something to eat to anyone who came to her house. She was always the last to sit down to eat after making sure everyone else had full plates and plenty of ice in their glasses. It just got better for her when the grands and great-grands were added to the mix.
Erma is survived by one daughter, Arvilla Richardson, Jacksonville, Florida, and three sons: Harley (Dee) Richardson, Snyder, Paul (Denise) Richardson, Duncan, OK and Alan Richardson, Snyder; six grandchildren: Lu (Brian) Eyerman, Jenny Stouder, Rusty Richardson, Brooke (Casey) Miller, Jed Richardson, and Haley (Max) Willens; and five great-grandchildren: Sidney Eyerman, Brian Stouder, Lilah and Waylon Miller, and Kenna Willens; and one brother Kenny Storie.
Erma is preceded in death by her parents: Samuel Anderson and Loma Arvilla Storie; infant daughter: Karen; sisters: Helen Roundtree, Mavis Johnson, Dorothy Weeks, Billie Keener; and her brother Sammie Storie.
Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of the Snyder Public Library, 613 E Street, Snyder, OK 73566.
