Dorris Lee Rea died Sunday, October 6, 2024, in Edmond, at the age of 98. She was born to parents, Thomas William Treadwell and Doris Allen Treadwell on the family farm west of Mountain Park, Kiowa County, on August 29, 1926. She was the youngest of six children: Roma, Merwyn, Edwin, Allen, and Louise.
She graduated from Mountain Park school in 1944 and attended Oklahoma City University. Dorris married James “Jim” Rea on August 1, 1945, at her sister Louise’ home in Oklahoma City. They were married 74 years until his passing on October 14, 2019, at age 98.
Her relatives and others proudly said that she was the “Prettiest Girl in Kiowa County.” People noticed her style and grace. She was pure class, through and through. In her marriage she was the woman beside the man. While a quiet partner, she was an equal partner in their marriage. Together they created a lifetime of love and happiness.
Dorris and Jim made their homes in Oklahoma City, Mountain Park, Guymon, Lawton, and Edmond, as his career progressed. Dorris was close to a perfect mother and wife. She did her best to instill good moral values in her children while allowing them to be their own person. She was always there whenever her family needed her. She was their rock.
She will be remembered and missed by her children and their spouses; Bob and Brenda Rea of Woodward, Steve and Linda Rea of Goodyear, Arizona, and Jane and Jerry Forgey of Edmond. She is survived by six grandchildren: Brooke Davis and spouse Lelyn, James Rea and spouse Mikki, Heather Schultz and spouse Nick, all residing in Woodward, Burke Rea and spouse Ruth, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Gillian Rea, of Phoenix, Arizona, and Sara Forgey, of Tacoma, Washington. To add to her legacy there are five great-grandchildren: Tatum Rea, Adler Davis, Weston Rea, Annyn Davis, and Walker Schultz all of Woodward.
