The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Dovie Mae Ramsey died Friday, February 7, 2025, in Lawton, at the age of 96.  She was born May 10, 1928, on the family farm five miles east of Snyder to Houston and Eula (Jett) Haining.
She attended school in Snyder, graduating in 1946. She married William H. “Bill” Ramsey Jr. on March 2, 1945, in Frederick, and they had two children, William H. “Billy” III and Jana Kay.
At the age of fifteen, after her sophomore year, Dovie spent the summer in Oklahoma City working for Southwest Bell as a long-distance operator.  She returned to Snyder for her junior year, then spent the next summer working at the Rexall Drug in Snyder.  After graduation she worked at Reed’s Variety Store.  She then spent several years working at home raising her family.
In 1963 Dovie returned to the workforce to work for Alene’s Ready-to-Wear for seven years.  When Alene sold out to Wanda Millirons, Dovie continued her employment for three more years.  She loved cosmetics and enjoyed selling Avon and Mary Kay.  Everyone remembers how she was always beautiful with her hair done and makeup perfect.
Dovie enjoyed retail work so much that in 1974 she and Juanita McKinney opened The Cabbage Patch Children’s Wear.  The Snyder store was successful, so the two owners opened a store in Frederick.  After seven years Dovie kept ownership of the Snyder store and Juanita kept the Frederick store.
In 1990 when Bill retired, Dovie wanted to join him in retirement, so she closed The Cabbage Patch.  During retirement Dovie enjoyed working with Margie Ramsey in the carpenter shop making furniture for family members.
Then retirement ended when Becker Funeral Home called Dovie and asked her to work part time at the funeral home.  She worked there almost 20 years and retired only because her health and eyesight forced her to retire at 89 years of age.  She loved helping families during their time of need.
Dovie has been president of the Snyder Chamber of Commerce.  Also, a member of the Ambulance Board and Snyder City Council.  She was a very active member of “Save the Depot” and served 35 years as Secretary / Treasurer of Fairlawn Cemetery Association.
As a longtime member of Snyder’s First Baptist Church, Dovie served as Sunday School teacher, choir member, Hospitality Committee member, Youth Committee member, Falls Creek sponsor, and other positions over the years.
Dovie is proud of her family – two children and their spouses, three grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
At age eighty-eight Dovie was still going strong and was honored as the Snyder Parade Grand Marshall.  She was honored to be Outstanding Snyder Alumni in 2023.
Dovie lived most of her life in Snyder.  Bill worked in the oilfield, so they lived in various towns in Oklahoma and Texas, including Waco and Jacksboro, Texas.  In 1957 the family returned from the oilfield and moved to the Ramsey farm west of Snyder.  They lived on the farm until moving into Snyder in 1972.  Dovie remained there until May of 2024.
She loved to entertain and hosted many gatherings for family and friends.  She was a wonderful cook.  Many will remember her pineapple chess pie.  Dovie and Jana made many pies as gifts at Christmas time.  They made their last pies for Christmas 2023.  Even after she lost her eyesight, they worked together to make her pies.
Dovie was a caring, loyal, and loving woman.  She loved her Lord, her family, her church, her country, and her friends.  She will be missed but we are happy to know she is with Jesus and her loved ones gone before.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Pat Ramsey, Boise City; her daughter, Jana Mietchen, Lawton; three grandchildren and their spouses: Matthew and Amy Ramsey, Gina and Travis Smalts, and Jennifer and Court Killion; great-grandchildren: Kinsey Smalts, Bret Smalts, Macy Burkhalter, Jack, Lily, Ava, Henry, Max and Luke Ramsey, James, Claire and Kate Killion.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters, Billie Burt and Juanita Young, and her son-in-law, Danny Mietchen.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Fairlawn Cemetery Association, Snyder, Oklahoma or the First Baptist Church Building Fund, Snyder.
