October 09, 2026
Graveside funeral services for Darrell Gene Lamar, 73, of Snyder will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 8, 2026, at Fairlawn Cemetery in Snyder.
Darrell Gene Lamar was born in Clinton, Oklahoma, on October 31, 1952, to Tom and Delilah (Shephard) Lamar. His family moved to Skiatook, Oklahoma, where he attended school through the fifth grade. They then moved to Snyder, where he was active in football, basketball, baseball, and FFA. He graduated in 1970.
Darrell then graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1976 with a degree in physical education and a minor in chemistry.
He worked at Safeway before beginning his career in education, teaching and coaching at Clinton, Butler, and Snyder. After earning his administrator’s certificate from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, he worked as an administrator in Temple. Upon his retirement, he moved to Snyder.
Darrell married Mona King in 1975, and they divorced in 2019.
Darrell was an avid OU Sooners fan and could talk about OU football for hours. If he wasn’t wearing an OU T-shirt, he was wearing a Snyder Cyclones shirt. His greatest accomplishment was coaching his three sons to the Class B football state championship in 1995.
Darrell is survived by his sons, Darren and wife Johnelle of Snyder, and Blake and wife Contessa of Moore; mother, Delilah Lamar of Stillwater; brother, Danny and wife Nancy of Stillwater; daughter-in-law, Melissa Spears of Mustang; grandchildren, Darra, Jaelie, and Izzy Lamar of Snyder; Jade and Jordan Lamar of Moore; and Tiffany and Rose Lamar of Tipton.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jeremy Lamar, and his father, Tom Lamar.
A special thank you to the staff at Ayers Nursing Home for their excellent care and compassion.
