COVID-19 Update - Local hospitals release hospitalization reports, CCMH gets overflow tent

On Tuesday, staff members from the Oklahoma State Department of Health, Comanche County Health Department, and Comanche County Memorial Hospital worked together to erect a climate controlled medical overflow shelter at Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton. With an increase of COVID-19 positive patients, the hospital requested the emergency activation for the field support system. Hospital officials say they had 61 COVID patients admitted, as of Tuesday morning. The hospital's all-time high of admitted COVID patients was 63, on January 4, 2021. The shelter will help with the overflow of ER patients waiting to be seen or admitted to the hospital. CCMH is the second hospital in Oklahoma to recently request the Western Shelters from OSDH.

Jackson County Memorial in Altus released hospitalization statistics for the month August last Wednesday and show that 46 COVID patients were admitted during the month and they experienced four deaths. Of the 46 patients, only two were fully vaccinated.
The Jackson County Memorial Hospital bed capacity report released Tuesday shows three of their ICU beds and five of their regular medical beds in use by COVID patients. They showed one ICU beds in use by non-COVID patients and 23 of their regular medical beds in use leaving no ICU beds and six of thier regular medical beds available. They were only using three of their eight ventilators at the time of report leaving five available.

The Comanche County Memorial report issued on Tuesday afternoon shows all of their beds full. They had 61 COVID patients, 14 of which were in the ICU and 41 required breathing assistance. At the time of the report 80% of their COVID patients requiring hospitalization were unvaccinated.

As of Wednesday morning, the Oklahoma Department of Health is reporting an increase of 23 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Kiowa County since last week’s edition, bringing the county total to 971. The breakdown of cases by town is: 196 (up six) in Snyder, eight active, 178 recovered and 10 deaths; 61 in Mt. Park (up one), four active, 56 recovered and one death; 55 in Roosevelt (up two), four active and 51 recovered; 409 in Hobart (up seven), 10 active, 387 recovered and 12 deaths; 138 in Mt. View (up three), five active, 129 recovered and four death; 33 in Gotebo, 32 recovered and one death; 61 in Lone Wolf (up four), three active and 58 recovered. Elsewhere in our coverage area, Indiahoma shows 202 cases (up three), six active, 194 recovered and two deaths; and Tillman County shows 897 cases (up 15) - 533 in Frederick (up 11) with 10 active, 511 recovered and 12 deaths; 22 in Manitou, all recovered; 136 in Tipton (up one), one active, 131 recovered and four deaths; 144 in Grandfield (up three), four active, 139 recovered and one death; 34 in Davidson, all recovered.
